What this simply means is when you are faced with something sour-negative, turn that into a sweet-positive…just like sour lemons used to make sweet lemonade!

Innovative Challenge #5: The Most Innovative Lemonade Stand🍋

Congratulations peeps…  you are onto the last two challenges in this section of the Digital Country Fair Quest    

And with that you might need something to quench your thirst…introducing our next challenge - challenge #5: The Most Innovative Lemonade Stand!

For those who have been to any type of fair, such as at your school or within your community, we here at Girls Day Out in STEM Digital Country Fair Quest also need a thirst quencher refreshment!

The challenge is to design and share with us YOUR very own lemonade stand.

We know you are up to the challenge!

And the great news is that we have a few categories open which will increase your chances of winning some awesome prizes. The big prize for this challenge is a prepaid FLX card with $200 credit from our partners at Flexischools!

Challenge #5 Steps:

This challenge is just for fun. Permits are needed for actual stands, so let’s keep it on paper :)

  1. Learn about how lemonade stands operate with this fun game

  2. Come back and fill out our business plan

  3. Create your own recipe and have your customers (family and friends) survey and rate your lemonade’s taste ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

  4. Create a spreadsheet to identify spending, earnings and savings

Lemonade Stand Business Plan

This is just a written exercise and meant to be a business learning exercise. You actually need a permit to run a real life lemonade stand. Let’s enjoy the fun of an imaginary lemonade stand.

Simply answer the questions below and add it to your PowerPoint presentation (or pdf) when ready to submit your completed challenge:

Getting started:

Think of a name for your lemonade stand.

People, Product, Place and Promotion: what resources does the lemonade stand need?

People:

●      Who will be the CEO of your lemonade stand?

●      Who else will be assisting you with your stand?

Product:

●      What’s the name of your lemonade stand?

●      What are the startup costs of your lemonade stand?

●      What are the recurring costs of your lemonade stand?

●      Recipe needs, serving size?

●      When will your lemonade stand be open?

●      What are your unique services?

Place:

●      Where will your stand be located?

Pricing:

●      How much will you charge for your lemonade?

●      What income can be expected from your lemonade stand?

Promotion:

●      How will you advertise and promote your stand?

●      What will be your offers to your customers?

Profit:

●      How much profit will you make? See the example below.

●      How will the profit be spent? (Pay back my investors Mum/Dad, donate it to charity, save it for something special)

Step 3

Your recipe and feedback survey rating

Here’s our standard lemonade recipe.

Ingredients

  • 10 lemons squeezed [will make approx. 350-400ml of lemon juice]

  • 8 cups [1900 ml] of water

  • 1 cup of white sugar

  • Ice cubes

Directions

1: On a cutting board, cut the lemons in half. Make sure an adult in on board to help with this.

2: Squeeze the lemons with a juicer or by hand into a jug. Remember to take out all the seeds.

3. Next stir together the lemon juice, sugar and water until the sugar dissolves.

4. Add some sliced lemons and ice cubes to the jug/pitcher and serve.

5: Now y’all are ready to sell your homemade lemonade. Good luck with your sales!

Now create your own lemonade and market test it by asking your family and friends how they would rate your lemonade recipe out or 5 Stars ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

In a spreadsheet identify your spending, earnings and savings.

We have given you a cheat sheet.

So, fill in a list of your expenses and the sales.

BONUS: In the GDOS example spreadsheet, on Sunday the number of customers decreased, but the cost of lemons increased. Can you think of why that might be? Let us know your explanation for this. Include it with your submitted work! Good job with those critical thinking skills!!!!!
