Innovative Challenge #4: Best Line Dance Coder
Howdy partners๐ค
Now we are on to our next challenge #4โฆ
Yee haw!
This is all about your creativity and innovation. Letโs have fun and learn how to code. Coders of all different abilities can partake in this challenge. Fun is the name of the game and letโs get started!
For Challenge #4, you will need to get your dancing shoes on, set your music playlist vibe and join us to code, code, and code to become the Best Line Dance coder this side of the cowshed ๐ฎ โฆ and the best news is that you have the chance to be in the draw to win an awesome prize from our partners at Flexischools!!
It doesnโt matter if you donโt know what line dancing is or if you donโt even know how to code โ or have a flowing mane of hair. We will show you howโฆ so letโs get started!!

How challenge #4 works:
Coding moves
Our partners at Google Education have a Computer Science [CS] program to show you how to code an avatar [Cassy] that can dance and even add music to give you the whole polished performance โฆ which are all the necessary steps for a line dance.
Line Dancing
Watch the Line Dancing video for inspiration to see what it is all about and learn the moves!!
Then it is your turn!
This tutorial is less than 15 min to view.
After watching the coding tutorial, you can do this challenge by yourself, with family, with friends, with your school or if you are a Coding Ninja, letโs see your moves.
Put it all together with your favourite country music and show us your dance๐ถ
When youโre done, submit your work to be in the draw for a prize!!!
Should the coding not go as planned, you can always film your moves in person with your selected country themed music and send it into us along with your coding plan. You can still win something for your effort.
Because we know, an attempt was made and effort trumps it every time.
Never give up!
Now letโs get to the nitty gritty yโall ๐ค
Step 1: Line Dance Tips
So, what is line dancing? Line dancing is very simple. You all stand in a gird pattern and then do the same movements at the same time to your choice of music. The dance is usually done over and over again, like a continuous LOOP!! Watch this classic demonstration to get into the groove.

Coding Backstory
Before we get you started with the coding, letโs meet our Flexischools superstar Engineer, Isabella. Her video will inspire you to become a cool coder like her who loves to code daily!
So, what is the connection between line dancing and coding?
They both follow a โLoopโ. The concept of a loop is very important in coding as you are about to find out next in our Video Line Dance Lesson. In computer science the coder (you) tells the computer one set of instructions: such as, move to the right. Then you tell the computer the next set of instructions: to move to the left. To do this repeatedly is called a loop: a set or repeated instructions. For line dancing it is the same โ moving using the same steps repeatedly is a type of loop. Yee haw ๐ค
Step 2: Line Dance Video Lesson
Yโall, we have got a challenge for you ๐ฃ
Our challenge to you is to make an innovative country avatar and code some awesome line dancing๐ค
Now letโs get yโall startedโฆ.

FOR THOSE WHO COULD NOT DO THE ABOVEโฆ.
Moves x Music = Best Line Dance ๐
This is an unplugged version for those who could not access the above challenge or their coding did not go to plan!!
Design your moves to make a flowing performance. A fancy name is choreography. This can be done on a piece of paper. Position where all the dancers are in relation to each other. Think of 9 dots in a square.
What music are you going to choose?
Next, how are your line dancers going to move first: left, or right? What move is next? Do a series of moves to match the music until the song has finished.
Remember to plan for a great finale finish!
What costumes will your group wear? Now dress โem up and accessories your team ๐ฏโโ๏ธ
Video your moves with the music!
Send us your work
With your parent/guardianโs permission, send us an email with the SUBJECT LINE: challenge#4 to hello@gdostem.com.au All completed entries must be submitted by the closing of the event (March 12th at 5pm AEST Queensland time) to be in the draw to win a prize.
