πSustainable YOU!π
>>>>>Queensland University of Technologyβ¦. QUT
QUT is known to be the University of the Real World ππ
And our Imagineering Adventure cannot get more real than looking after YOU!
The Centre for Data Science at QUT is a leading research centre. Recently launching AusiSTAR a world first with its dynamic combo of data science x tech x sports/fitness - QUT is leading by example in this space. In fact, QUT is helping our Australian athletes, coaches, technicians and a whole host of other people gain a winning edge leading up to the Brisbane Olympics in 2032 ππ₯π
We have an awesome challenge inspired by this world-class initiative and their amazing researchers such as Prof. Divya Mehta [who you can βmeetβ in the QUT World in our Metaverse].

π βSurvival of the fittestβ
You might have heard this saying - Survival of the fittest. It actually originated from scientists work in the 19th century who studied species survival. Those that adapted best to their environment were the most successful.
This also can relate to this adventure. That is to say, if we do not look after our own fitness, health and well-being β we actually are not in a good position to look ourselves or others. Which means if we want to have the power to undertake saving our own or other species, we need to have the mental and physical strength to do this.
Our Sustainable Fitness Adventureβs aim is to encourage us to look after ourselves so that we can look after others.
A great way to do this is to collect data about our current fitness level. Weβll choose a starting point. Then set an end goal. Once you achieve your end goal you can then reset your starting point and go for more!
From the beginning to the end, it is recommended that you record your results. Start by writing down your starting point. For example: walk 10 minutes nonstop. You may think to yourself. Sure, I can achieve that β itβs just walking right. Keep tracking this frequency of raw data in your graph. Letβs see what you can manage to achieve in a week.
By doing daily entries, you are now a data scientist; you are collecting data and arranging the information. As you log these daily actions, you can start to feel a sense of achievement and start to feel good about your achievements.
Looking back now, you can see how your fitness might have improved your mood or your concentration. You might feel more energetic and may even wish to stretch yourself to take on a further challenge. This challenge might include helping your friends join you in the fitness journey. Science also tells us that when we have peers or family support, the human species performs better.
The bigger picture becomes brighter. You, as an individual, can feel what itβs like to go from surviving to thriving. Also, you have helped your peers or family members by having them join you in the journey.
This is how we have gone beyond from just sustaining (surviving) to thriving πππ

Follow the steps below:
STEPS
Set your goal: identify the aim or the reason for doing the task. Your aim should be to find out the answer β am I there yet π©·
Data Collection: track your goal. That is collecting your data. Plotting your steps clearly on a graph will keep you motivated. It will help you feel good about undertaking the challenge - and help you stay on track π©·
Data Analysis: how do you feel? Do you wish to keep going at the same pace? Are you willing to challenge yourself a bit more and stretch to new level? Looking at your data β data analysis β helps you make these decisions π©·
Observations: study your data. Then you can make decisions based on your data analysis. Do you wish to reset your goal and go for another challenge or are you done? The decision is all yours.π©·
Findings: share your work. Now that you have finished your Sustainable Fitness Adventure let us know how it went? Be rewarded with a passport fitness stamp π©·
Real World STEM Takeawaysπ
πDid you realise that throughout this Sustainable Fitness Adventure you were exploring maths concepts such collecting data, using a visual tracking bar graph, taking measurements, analysing data sets to make informed decisions around your progress and presenting your results π
πShare with us your observations by looking at the patterns in your results. The reporting in science is called your findings. So, thank you for sharing with us your findings on your fitness progress π
πFeeling better supports you to do more. Well-being can also encourage a positive growth mindset. Imagineering improvements in your health and well-being throughout the Sustainable Fitness Adventure is also part of the science behind sports performance psychology π
